HTC Wildfire entry-level Android debuts

HTC have unveiled their latest Android smartphone, the HTC Wildfire, and it’s an entry-level model that looks to replace the little-loved HTC Tattoo.  Packing a 3.2-inch QVGA capacitive touchscreen, European 3G/UMTS support, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, a 5-megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash and HTC Sense, the Wildfire looks like a cross between a Desire and a Google Nexus One.

As for Sense, that has a couple of new features including displaying a contact’s latest Facebook status update along with their photo whenever you call them or they call you.  There’s also a new app called Application Sharing, which allows you to quickly let friends know about software you’re enjoying on your phone: after picking the title from a list, you can share it via SMS, email, Twitter or whatever other social networking tools you have on your phone.

HTC Droid Incredible officially official for Verizon, April 29 for $200

Though some information leaked out of Verizon’s pipes yesterday, HTC just got really real with the Droid Incredible at the 99% Conference in New York today. Specs are pretty much what we expected: Android 2.1 withSense, an 8 megapixel cam, 1GHz Snapdragon (not the underclocked core we’d heard rumored before, thankfully), WiFi, and a 3.7-inch WVGA AMOLED display. Basically, this unit is a Sense-ified HTC Desire with an up-spec’d camera and a penchant for Verizon’s airwaves — and for a whole lotta Android users, that’s exactly what the doctor ordered. It hits on April 29 for $199.99 on contract after a $100 mail-in rebate.

HTC EVO 4G PROMO VIDEO

HTC has released a promotional video for the upcoming HTC EVO 4G. up until now there hasn’t been a video that really showed how beautiful this device is. It would’ve been up sooner but I couldn’t stop watching it.

At first I thought this would be the official commercial for the device bit it’s a minute and a half and that a minute too long for today’s commercials. The features and hardware are beautifully displayed in this video and now I want it even more (too bad it’s on Sprint).

HTC HD2 gets early Windows Phone 7 OS port, could be released before official devices

Don’t look surprised. With the Windows Phone 7 Series dev tools now out in the open the pent up demand for that elusive HD2 upgrade was bound to be a priority for some well-meaning developers, somewhere… namely, Russia. Now we’ve got what looks to be the first screenies of the WP7S OS running on an HD2. Better yet, htcpedia claims that almost everything is working including WiFi, GPS, and Bluetooth. However, the graphics driver is still showing problems and there is noticeable device lag. Nevertheless, the team is planning a beta release soon. Imagine it, an HD2 WP7S ROM available before Microsoft and its partners can even launch an official device, with its 5 buttons or not — now that would be something. One more grab after the break, the rest at the source below.

Mysterious HTC Windows Phone hits the FCC launching on September 15th

A new Windows Phone handset from HTC has just hit the FCC a few days ago,the PB92100. Unfortunately nothing about it is know yet other than the following statement:

We are requesting the comission to grant short-term confidentianlity request on the following attachements until 9/15/2010..

Is this a Windows Mobile 6.5.X or Windows Phone 7 Series handset? My guess is that this is probably the Us version of the HTC HD Mini.

HTC EVO 4G is Sprint’s Android-powered knight in superphone armor, we go hands-on

We’ve been rumoring a WiMAX “HTC Supersonic” for a while now, and Sprint just dropped the hard news: the phone will be dubbed the HTC EVO 4G, will be released this Summer and it’s easily the best specced phone we’ve ever witnessed. The hardware is of quite obvious HD2 descent, but with Android onboard and some nice aesthetic tweaks, the EVO 4G takes on a life of its own. The handset is centered around a 480 x 800 4.3-inch TFT LCD, with a Snapdragon QSD8650 1GHz processor under the hood (the CDMA version of the QSD8250 in the HD2 and Nexus One), and even a helpful 1GB of built-in memory and 512MB of RAM — hello app storage! Even the battery is bigger than the HD2, and the camera is an 8 megapixel monstrosity with flash, that’s capable of 720p video, and is augmented by a 1.3 megapixel front facing camera for good measure. The phone features HDMI out (though you’ll need an adapter for turning it into a TV-familiar HDMI plug), 802.11b/g WiFi, and an 8GB microSD card. There’s that still-rare Android 2.1 underneath an updated version of HTC’s Sense UI. But… despite all these wild features, what actually sets the EVO 4G apart is the fact that it’s Sprint’s first 4G phone. The handset runs a combo of EV-DO Rev. A and WiMAX, with calls still being made over CDMA and the EV-DO / WiMAX options for data. Interestingly, it sounds like concurrent data and voice use might be possible for the first time on CDMA carrier in this way (killing AT&T’s well-advertised differentiator), though Sprint says that’s still in the testing phase. One other new feature is the Sprint hotspot app, another MiFi-style connection sharing number, which is obviously aided greatly by the WiMAX on board and can support up to eight concurrent users.

We got to play with the phone for an all-too-brief matter of minutes, but everything we saw was frankly breathtaking. The camera does seem to be indeed of a high quality (though we’ll still be holding on to our compact shooter, thank you very much), the screen is naturally gorgeous, and the Sense UI was as responsive as we’ve seen it, and frankly delicious at this jumbo size. The capacitive face buttons are flat and almost a little difficult to see due the thin chrome icons, but the physical buttons (a volume rocker and a power button up top) are very large, tactile and friendly. Around back there’s strong, chrome kick stand, and when you pop off the cover the battery is surrounded by beautiful “Ferrari red” plastic. The touchscreen keyboard is positively ginormous, though we’re not sure we’re feeling some of the recent things that have been crammed in there like huge cursor buttons and the voice recognition button — just because you can fit stuff in there doesn’t mean you should, and they look a little comical at this size. In our testing we weren’t really able to get a feel for the browsing speed on WiMAX, but at this point we’re primarily enthused that it’s even an option, and obviously the theoretical speeds are far beyond 3G, with a bunch of new markets due to go online this year. Battery life is stated as “comparable.”

Our biggest questions at this point are availability and pricing. Sprint is keeping mum, just stating a “Summer” availability, and interestingly clarified that not only is it not announcing device pricing, but it’s not announcing plan pricing yet either — sounds like a 4G-on-a-phone surcharge could be somewhere in our future. Check out videos of the phone in action after the break, including an up-close-and-personal test of the touchscreen keyboard. Below you’ll find galleries of the phone by its lonesome and up against the Nexus One and iPhone 3G.

HTC Sense UI ported to the Motorola DROID

By now you’re probably getting tired of the plain ole vanilla Android on your droid. Now you can change it up a bit, Sense UI from the upcoming HTC Desire has been ported to the Droid.

This ROM has been in the works for about a month now and a beta has been released by AllDroid user Greek35T. There are still a few kinks to workout but early reports from users have been positive. You currently can’t make calls while 3G is active and there is no Bluetooth or GPS, hopefully these things will be worked out soon so all you Droid users can enjoy Sense and all the goodies that come with it.

T-Mobile launches HTC Desire competition

T-Mobile UK has a new promotion to commemorate the launch of the HTC Desire on the UK network on March 26, they are giving away one HTC Desire to any T-Mobile user who enters its online draw. To enter, sign up on T-Mobile UK forums and email some information given there and you could be the lucky winner.

Entries have to be in by 9.00am Monday morning. Winners have to make a short video reviewing the handset and send it into T-Mobile, that’s the only catch to this contest. I don’t know how they plan on enforcing this rule unless there’s some built in kill switch which I doubt.
